14 dead, as many injured in Farah clashes

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Six policemen and eight Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed during overnight clashes in western Farah province, an official said on Sunday.

Police spokesman Iqbal Bahir told Pajhwok Afghan News the clashes broke out after militants attacked security check-posts in Sarbazzar, Wasat-i-Bazar, Mandawi and Farahroad areas in Bala Bolok district late on Saturday night.

Six police and eight militants were killed and seven police and as many attackers were wounded in the clashes, he said.

Sayyad Ahmad, a resident, said the Taliban captured two security posts and weapons and ammunition during the attacks. He had no information about the exact number of casualties.

The Taliban confirmed the attacks. Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban’s spokesman, said their fighters overran three check-posts and took away all weapons and ammunition.

He said only one rebel fighter was injured. However, the police spokesman denied capturing check-posts by the militants.
