Farah: 8 police killed in Taliban attack on checkpoint

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Eight policemen were killed as a result of a Talibaninfo-icon attack in western Farah province, an official said on Monday.

Police spokesman Iqbal Bahir told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked a security check-post in Regi area at 2am.

The post was overrun by insurgents before the arrival of reinforcements. But the Taliban retreated after reinforcement reached the site. Eight police personnel were killed and a ninth wounded.

Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, Taliban’s spokesman, claimed 13 policemen were killed and one injured. The post fell to the fighters and several weapons were captured by rebels, he added.
