JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police have arrested 40 individuals, including 10 Daesh militants, during the past six days in eastern Nangarhar province, the provincial police chief said on Tuesday.

Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi told a press conference here that police had also confiscated 18 different weapons during the period.

As a result of police’s efforts, 30 individuals were detained on various charges during special operations, investigations and patrols.

“The detainees include 20 individuals accused of kidnappings, murders, robberies and mugging, four of them are Talibaninfo-icon insurgents, a four-member kidnap gang and a group of murderers headed by Asif and two other suspects.”

The police chief said the suspects also included 10 Daesh militants. Rahimi also informed that two Taliban insurgents turned in their RPGs and AK-47 assault rifles on joining the peace process in Chaprahar district on Tuesday.

Rahimi said operations were underway in Kot, Haska Mena, Achin, Nazyan, Pachiragam, and Chaprahar districts over the past six months. He said hundreds of Daesh and Taliban rebels suffered casualties during the offensives and a lot of their sanctuaries, weapons, ammunition, and vehicles were destroyed.

He assured Nangarhar people that security organs were doing their best to ensure security in the province and wouldn’t let insurgents disrupt the security situation.

The provincial police chief holds press conferences after every three weeks to share his department’s achievements with media.

But civil societyinfo-icon activists, provincial council members and ordinary people claim the security situation has deteriorated in Nangarhar since Rahimi’s takeover.
