Ghani vows zero interference in poll bodies’ work

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has said the unity government determined to hold parliamentary elections next year would never interfere in the electoral bodies’ work.

The president said this during a consultative meeting with members of the Senate administrate board and panel heads at the Presidential Palace on Thursday afternoon, a statement from the palace said.

Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar on the occasion appreciated the national unity government’s decisions concerning national and international issues and said the upper house of parliament had always thrown its weight behind them.

Deputy Senate chairman Mohammad Alam Ezedyar also hailed the government’s foreign policy and he insisted on a balanced regional policy.

After listening to them, President Ghani briefed the lawmakers in details about his government’s readiness for peace talks with Pakistaninfo-icon, intra-Afghan dialogue and introduction of his Cabinet nominees to the lower house for a trust vote.

The president stressed the need for comprehensive government reforms and said his government had a strong will to implement its reform agenda and sought the parliament’s help in this regard, especially in police reform.

Ghani said the parliamentary elections would be conducted next year and the government would not interfere in affairs of the election commissions to maintain their credibility.
