Child killed, 12 wounded in Faryab mortar fire

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A child was killed and 12 other people were wounded as mortar shells allegedly fired by Talibaninfo-icon insurgents hit civilian homes in Pashtunak district of northern Faryab province, officials said on Saturday.

A security source told Pajhwok Afghan News on the condition of anonymity that the incident took place Gapi Mareshkar area of the district.

Dr. Mahbobullah, an official at the Afghan-Turk emergency hospital, said confirmed receiving 12 injured people and one dead body of a child.

He said the injured included nine children, two womeninfo-icon and one man who were brought to the hospital at 9:00pm last night.

Suhrab, one of the relatives of the victims, said one mortar shell struck nine children who were playing and then another shell hit a house, injuring two women and one man.

Security officials had no idea about the direction of the firing, but some residents claimed the shells were fired by security force.
