KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): As many as 121 cold stores built at total cost of 55 million Afghanis in five districts of central Kabul province were put into service on Wednesday, an official said.

A ceremony to inaugurate the cold stores was held in Chahar Asyab district. Addressing the gathering, Agricultureinfo-icon Minister Asadullah Zamir provided the details of the constructed cold rooms.

He said 61 cold facilities have been built in Mosihi district, 27 in Qarabagh district, 16 in Chahar Asiab district, 14 in Khak-i-Jabbar district and three in Bagrami district in a span of six months.

Zamir said the cost of the projects was shared 50-50 by the ministry and residents of the areas.

The minister said 116 of the total constructed cold stores were small and the remaining five were large. According to him, the small facilities have the capacity to store 12 to 15 metric tonnes and the large ones could reserve 50-60 tonnes of onions. The refrigerated units could also be used for storing potatoes, he added.

The Chahar Asiab district chief, Abdul Khaleel Muqtader, expressed happiness over the construction of cold rooms, saying more such facilities were needed in the district.
