PMGGI seeks joint body to address migration conundrum
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Peace, Media and Good Governance Institute (PMGGI) has demanded the creation of a joint commission to handle migration
-related challenges and issues.
Ahmad Kameel Mir Shad Big, PMGGI chief, addressing the third academic conference “Media, Migration, Opportunities and Challenges”, said: “Media can play an effective role in spreading awareness regarding prevention of migration.”
He said media through special programs, exclusive documentaries, video clips and others could support the anti-migration campaign.
“For this purpose, a joint committee comprised of media organizations, refugees, information and other ministries should be formed.”
He said the proposed programme would financially benefit the media which would spread more awareness among people regarding migration in return.
Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi, the minister of refugees and repatriation, said the media did play a vital role in the decline of migration from Afghanistan.
He said: “We hope the media would help us in controlling the growing migration. We witnessed that media’s role was very effective in restricting migration. We had joint prorammes and we hope for joint work in future.”
He said in the current time migration was both an opportunity and challenge and the government of Afghanistan should convert this challenge to opportunity.
Syed Muzgan Mustafavi from the Ministry of Information and Culture affairs, said independent media outlets should cooperate with the government on the migration issue.
She said media with its positive image in society could play role in reversing the tide on growing migration.
