Govt ready for talks with militants anytime: HPC

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) secretary Mohammad Akram Khpalwak on Saturday asked armed insurgent groups to join the national reconciliation process unconditionally.

Khpalwak was addressing a gathering welcoming home after 20 years Gulbadin Hekmatyar, head of the Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA), in Mehtarlam, the capital of eastern Laghman province.

The HPC chief said the Afghan government was ready for peace talks with armed groups anytime and anywhere.

He said the Afghan government was committed to implementing all articles of the landmark peace agreement with the HIA and asked politicians leaders to monitor the deal’s implementation.

Hekmatyar for the first time in 20 years addressed his supporters in Mehtarlam and asked the Talibaninfo-icon to come to the negotiating table.
