Policemen among 15 dead in Takhar clash

TAOQAN (Pajhwok): Seven policemen and eight Talibaninfo-icon have been killed during a clash in the Khawaja Bahawuddin district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Police Spokesman Col. Khalil Aseer told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban attacked local police check-post in Alqanaq area and their base in Charsyano area.

He said reinforcement could not be reached to security personnel because the Taliban planted landmines in the area.

Niamatullah, the resident of locality, said the local security personnel run out of ammunitions and the Taliban captured the posts and killed all of them.

The Taliban confirmed the clash. The group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they captured eight check-posts and security forces base in Alqanaq area.

He said two Taliban were killed and as many wounded and the group recovered large quantity of weapons.
