10 rebels killed in Takhar clash

Apr 02, 2017 - 13:02

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): At least 10 Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and nine others wounded during a clash with Afghan forces in Durqad district of northern Takhar province, an official said Sunday.

Lt. Gen. Sher Aziz Kamawal, police in the northern zone, told media the militants attacked Durqad district building from different directions on Saturday night.

He said 10 militants were killed and nine others wounded in Afghan forces’ retaliatory attack.

The clash continued for eight hours and the militants were forced to retreat, he said, adding only one policeman was injured in the incident.

Provincial police spokesman, Maj. Khalil Asir told Pajhwok Afghan News that three security personnel were wounded in the clash with militants.

The militants injured in the clash have been shifted to a clinic in Kaltot area which is under the Taliban control, he said.

Taliban did not comment about the clash so far.

The Taliban captured Darqad district about two years ago, but Afghan forces retake the district control after a month of its fall to the rebel group. Many areas of the district were still under the Taliban influence.
