Some Paktika officials involved in drug trade: attorney

Some Paktika officials involved in drug trade: attorney

Mar 09, 2017 - 00:10

SHARANA (Pajhwok): The attorney’s office in southeastern Paktika province on Wednesday said some government officials were involved in drug trade.

Asadullah Waziri, the provincial attorney’s office head, presenting their annual report during a press conference here, said the attorneys had investigated 395 political and criminal cases during the outgoing solar yearinfo-icon.

But there was no case about drugs, showing some local officials were complicit in the illicit business, he said.

Waziri said the number of individuals addicted to drugs had lately increased in Paktika. He also lashed out at police for not curbing open sale of drugs.

Without going into specifics, he confirmed receiving letters from the Attorney General Office about the involvement of four provincial council members in corruption.

Waziri said they faced problems due to the lack of female prison and female attorneys. He said attorneys would be appointed next year in districts lacking them.
