25 rebels killed in ongoing Uruzgan firefight

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 25 Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and several others wounded during an ongoing clash in central Uruzgan province, the Afghan military said on Monday.

The Afghan National Army’s 205th Atal military corps said in a statement the rebels were inflicted the casualties during an operation in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, and Chora district.

It said the ANA soldiers targeted the militants who were planning to attack “Ismail” military base.

About 17 militants including some notorious commanders were killed and several others wounded in Chora district and eight militants were killed in Tirinkot and some bodies of the insurgents remained on the ground.

However, Taliban group spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters had captured the military base and inflicted heavy casualties on security forces in Chora district.
